- On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT.

The path of this eclipse will continue from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. This eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. This eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT. -

See the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse path of totality map in the above linked NASA article for the exact path of this total eclipse of the sun over North America.

The last total eclipse of the Sun that fully crossed the North American continent occurred on August 21, 2017. It then completely crossed the continental US, from its northwest Pacific coast to its southeast Atlantic coast. That date was 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks, and 6 days before this April 8, 2024 solar eclipse will again completely cross over the USA. This time it will do so from its southwest border with Mexico to its northeast border with Canada. Their two paths of totality will cross each other over what is now considered by many to be the center of the Christian world, the USA’s so-called “Bible Belt.”

This upcoming second (in recent years) North American total solar eclipse will take place 1,212 days before another very similar pair of total solar eclipses begins to appear over the Muslim world on August 2, 2027. These two total eclipses of the Sun will there cross paths over its center, again with 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks, and 6 days passing between them. The first of these two total solar eclipses will pass directly over the city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, which is considered by adherents of the Islamic faith to be “the holiest place on earth.” The second total solar eclipse of this pair will cross the path of the first one on March 20, 2034. It will then do so over the Red Sea, through which the Bible tells us the Israelites miraculously escaped their bondage in Egypt. (Exodus 13:17-14:31; Hebrews 11:29)

Two total solar eclipse path of totality maps, showing these two pairs of solar eclipses, each lasting 6 years, 6 months, 6 weeks, and 6 days, with 1,212 (600 + 600 + 6 + 6) days between them, are here displayed.

The first map shows the total solar eclipse 2017 path of totality, along with the total solar eclipse 2024 path of totality, one of which has already taken place and one of which will soon be seen in the sky over North America.

The second map shows the paths of totality for the pair of total solar eclipses that will be visible over Africa and Asia in 2027 and 2034.
